If you are at all interested in cardiology - this is a good peds rotation for you! You will spend 3 weeks of your peds rotation working with the peds cardio team.
Each day begins at about 645 in the PICU, then you round at 730, then morning report, then clinic time. In clinic you see patients who are post op, new dx, and consults. Sometimes there are patients on the floor and in the NICU to see as well. You will also have a chance to observe some cardiac caths.
There is a lot of teaching in this rotation - they will spend many hours going over Echos with you. The more "enthusiasm" the better your experience will be. All of the attendings are very nice, and are wonderful teachers.
Each day is usually over around 430-5. Also - there is a lot of down time - especially in the summer because the attendings go on vacation. This means that there will be several days with no clinic - which means "reading/study" time for you.
The only major draw back of this rotation is that you don't get a lot of experience with general peds until you are on the general peds clinic roation. I never saw ear infections or strep throat until I was on general peds clinic.
The best part of this rotation is that you gain lots of experience listening to heart murmurs as well as some basic EKG info. So far, it has benefited me because since peds cardio I have picked up at least 3 murmurs that my residents/attendings didn't hear.
