This was a 2 week rotation. The day always started at 5am and usually lasted till around 6-6:30.
This was a very intense rotation and the best way to describe it is to say its Internal Medicine with a slight chance of seeing an actual Trauma case come into the Trauma Bay, I saw 2; and an even slighter chance to do surgery. I only got into 1 surgery and that was the last day of the rotation. Really, it's just an extra Internal Med rotation where your goal will be to help out the intern as much as possible, while carrying around 5 patients of your own.
Rounding varied in the morning, depending on the attending. Dr. Atteberry was flexible with her rounding, usually started around 9-10am and it lasted all day, basically until we had to go to lecture at 4. She hardly ever pimped. Dr. Ferdinand and Hawkins are a different story, they pimped basically the entire time, though they aren't mean spirited about it, and I did learn from the process. They are much faster, and rounds usually got done around noon, after which we would go help out in clinic, which is pretty laid back from 1pm- till lecture. After that we would go back and help the intern till 6-6:30. One other point- we went none stop, so bring a protein bar or something to munch on for lunch, unless you can wait till lecture at 4pm to eat.
I really don't suggest this rotation if you are at all interested in surgery. But if you just hate being in the operating room...then welcome to 2 weeks of Surgery where you won't be seeing it.
