Good: The rotation is a very friendly one. All four attendings (Vega, McDonough, Bell, and Ameri) are good teachers. Dr. Bell has a bad rep for being a little strict and less friendly, but that's just for a pediatrician--great compared to non-peds. Hours are generally 7am-4:30pm. Call is Q4 which you make up with the other Sub-Is; a couple of us were able to switch around dates. They only insist one or two weekend calls. The call facilities at the CMC are the best in Augusta. The nurses on Hem/onc are the best in the hospital, as most Hem/onc nurses are. Everything runs smoothly and you get the benefit of working with lots of interesting cases. Occasionally there are some heart-wrenching cases, so it's probably not for the faint of heart, but it's a much better rotation work-load wise.
Bad: Each attending is only on for one week at a time, so it's not a great rotation to do to ask for a letter of recommendation. You don't get to see the clinic a lot which is where a lot of the action happens. It's not the best rotation to take for preparation of going to other sites. Lots of people like to take the General Peds Inpatient Sub-I for that, but it's a lot more work.
