This is a pretty good rotation for ambulatory medicine. I work 4.5 days a week (Friday afternoon off) from 8am - 4:30pm. You usually work with Dr. Ribeiro, who is the lone civilian internal medicine doc at the Fort. He is an AWESOME teacher and clinician. Basically what you do is see the patient and present to him with your A&P. No notes have to be written since the military is all electronic. He does have you read up on topics (usually daily) and present a brief synopsis the next day (on a topic that you saw in clinic).
Usually one day a week I will be with the GI doc, Dr. Sisk, who is also great. He does procedures in the AM (EGD and colonoscopy), and clinic in the afternoon. He will take 15min and go over a topic for you as a mini-lecture. Great teacher!
Once a week you can also spend with the Neurologist, Dr. Sartori. He is THE best neurologist I have worked with, and that is saying alot considering the great attendings at MCG. Dr. Sartori is such an excellent teacher, and really explains things well. He goes through the neuro exam completely and teaches you all his tricks (and I thought I knew alot of tricks already!).
Occasionally you will work with some of the other internal med docs, who are also very friendly. Overall, this is a great rotation if you happen to be assigned here, or want to go to Columbus. You will see a wide range of pathology given the military population.
The housing is a little sketchy (with a few resident cucarochas), no internet which really sucks. There are places around town that have free wireless, so its usually not a big deal. With Friday afternoons off, I usually drove back to Augusta for the weekend. Columbus is a 1.5hr drive to ATL, and 3.5 to Augusta.
