I had a great time up in Chicago. The area is in the Lincoln Park area, very safe, also very pricey. Important to note that it is NOT downtown as some think but there's a free shuttle between the two if you find a place/stay with someone near the main NW campus.
PROs: The best part were the relaxed attendings. They all go by first names. They've very encouraging and love to teach. One half day will go towards lectures each week. They've very flexible about days off. You'll work Acute Care one day a week and Peds ER the other four. They don't do much overnight stuff. It's usually 8-5 or 10-6. Ridiculously nice. You get to do lots of procedures. I did four LPs, too many splits to count, gave shots, drew some blood, etc. There's a decent number of serious traumas that come through. The place is run very well and it pretty busy (40k+ visits a year). The residents are all cool and you'll have some NPs that are great work with you, too.
CONS: Very few, really. The price is bad if you're not staying with a friend in the Lincoln Park area. They're kind of shocked how anal our ER requirements are at MCG and can't believe they have to admin a test and get us to sign daily and procedure logs. Make sure you contact the ER department to get you a Peds ER test for any away Peds ER visit as they made me take an adult one and said that had I of set up the Peds ER test earlier I might have been able to do it.
