Basically, if you plan to do an away at Emory, you will need to provide your own housing. The person to contact for any away rotation at Emory is:
Barbara Bingham
404-778-1372
bbingha@emory.edu
I would obviously talk to the person in the department you are interested in (medicine, peds, etc). But to schedule the rotation, you must go through her. She will link you to the application. I believe I had to pay $50, then another $85 once I was accepted. You must have up-to-date immunizations, TB test must be done within 6 months of the start date.
I applied in early March, but was not assigned until June. You have to wait until the Emory students choose, so dont expect to know 100% until then. After that point, she will send you a list of off-campus housing places. If you need to get housing, just contact the people on that list. I heard that the dorms at Grady were a dump. But there is random people that you can sublet from on this list. I would expect to pay ~$600 for the month.
Keep in mind that Emory works at 4 different hospitals. I had to rotate through all 4. (Emory University Hospital, Childrens Hospital of Atlanta, Grady, Crawford Long) With that, its difficult to buy a one month parking pass, unless you are at the same place. I ended up having to pay $5 per day for parking, which ended up costing about what I pay to park at MCG all year.
Overall, it was a great experience. If you are thinking you may be interested in a program at Emory, its worth checking out.
