DEPT. OF FAMILY MEDICINE, MEDICAL COLLEGE OF GEORGIA[/u]
The Department of Family Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia provides clerkship experiences to 4 students per rotation. These students receive clinical exposure to patients in both the ambulatory and hospital setting. Ambulatory exposure is provided by the undifferentiated patient population who receive their health care through the Family Medicine Center. Hospital exposure is provided by the Family Medicine Inpatient Service which receives patients who require hospitalization from the Family Medicine Center and the Tri-County Health System’s clinics. A small number of patients come from family physicians throughout the State of Georgia who refer patients to our service for diagnostic evaluation. The students observe the delivery of health care to these patients and their families in both a comprehensive and continuous manner with emphasis on preventive medicine. These patients will also present with acute and/or chronic health care requirements. During the rotation, the students are given time for reading, chart preparation and home visits.
DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY PRACTICE, EISENHOWER ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, FORT GORDON, GEORGIA[/u]
Two students per rotation are assigned (when available) to the Family Practice Center at Fort Gordon. The Family Practice Department at Fort Gordon provides comprehensive and continuous care to active duty and retired military personnel. Students rotating through the department are precepted by faculty, who also work closely with residents. Students participate in the evaluation of both ambulatory and hospitalized family practice patients and receive teaching through formal lecture, group consultation and directly from residents and faculty. Provision for a home visit with a community health nurse is provided. Additionally, the students have an opportunity to meet and work with third and fourth year students from other medical schools rotating through the clinic.
WEST AUGUSTA FAMILY PRACTICE ASSOCIATES, AUGUSTA, GEORGIA
One student per rotation is assigned to the West Augusta Family Practice Associates. Clinical activity occurs at Doctor’s Hospital, University Hospital and the private practice office. The purpose of this rotation is to provide student exposure to a private office practice in family medicine as well as exposure to a hospital practice in a community hospital. The student is exposed to the comprehensive care offered by this family medicine practice as well as appropriate usage of consultative resources available. The patient population is diverse, offering exposure to the practice of preventive care as well as a diversity of problems and pathology.
FAMILY MEDICINE ASSOCIATES OF AUGUSTA, GEORGIA
One student per rotation is assigned to the Family Medicine Associates of Augusta. Clinical activity occurs at St. Joseph's Hospital and the private practice office. The purpose of this rotation is to provide student exposure to a private office practice in family medicine as well as exposure to a hospital practice in a community hospital. The student is exposed to the comprehensive care offered by this family medicine group practice as well as appropriate usage of consultative resources available. The patient population is diverse, offering exposure to the practice of preventive care as well as a diversity of problems and pathology.
DR. MEYER P. SCHWARTZ, AUGUSTA, GEORGIA
One student per rotation is assigned to the office of Dr. Meyer P. Schwartz. Clinical activity occurs at Doctor’s Hospital, University Hospital and the private practice office. The purpose of this rotation is to provide student exposure to a private office practice in family medicine as well as exposure to a hospital practice in a community hospital. The student is exposed to the comprehensive care offered by this family medicine group practice as well as appropriate usage of consultative resources available. The patient population is diverse, offering exposure to the practice of preventive care as well as a diversity of problems and pathology.
SOUTHERN FAMILY MEDICAL CENTER,AUGUSTA, GEORGIA
One student per rotation is assigned to Southern Family Medical Center located in south Richmond County for the purpose of participating in an experience in the private practice of family medicine. Students are exposed to a private practice which delivers comprehensive and longitudinal care to an undifferentiated population of patients. Students are required to participated in the care of selected patients and their families. During the rotation, the students are given time for reading, chart preparation and home visits.
