EXPERIENCE: This rotation was not one of my favorites because of the people. The faculty and residents didn't really seem to care about you. You are a fly on the wall during rounds, which were mostly table rounds. I guess that's good in a way since you don't get pimped. During the day, the residents don't tell you when things are happening or ask you to join in on any procedures, so you have to be aggressive about being invovled, which they will let you when they are approached sometimes willingly.
There's lots of study time since you are not acknowledged so nothing much is expected of you besides seeing your pt's in the morning.
There are a few attendings and residents that are good - you'll know who they are. Take advantage of them while you have the time with them!
1x / week you have clinic in the afternoon where you see pts on your own and fill out this worksheet then you see the pt with the resident then you present to the attending.
You will probably be rotating with a Mercer student and maybe a PA student.
SCHEDULE: 5 am-6pm most days except for post call days which
you are expected to leave 12pm next day. Informal student lectures by the resident most days of the week - most of the time they were canceled. Morning report on Mondays with breakfast. You are free on weekends except if you have a call day.
HOUSING: By the water, but it's not that nice. Instead of roaches you get baby crabs but they were all dead and I only saw 2. 15 minutes away from the hospital. Apartment style with 2 other rooms enough to fit 4 people (2 per room).
ASSIGNMENTS: 15 minute presentation on topic of choice.
GYM: In the hospital but you have to pay I think $20. Mercer students are free but not us. Very small gym.
PERKS: none
