I did this rotation at the family medicine associates of Augusta, a private practice on Wrightsboro. This was a pretty good rotation. I know some people who had bad experiences on this rotation. However (and this goes for all rotations) once you figure out people's personalities and how to work around them things get better. The hours are pretty good. You get to work at 9am (for the most part) and leave anywhere between 3pm and 5pm depending on how busy it is that day. You take 5 calls from home and 2 weekend calls where you go in and round at Trinity (previously St. Joseph hospital) in the mornings. The patient population is pretty good and you get to see a lot of true family practice stuff. Unfortunately the material on the family medicine shelf is more like a mini step1/step2 than it is true family medicine. They have very few women with true gynecologic problems so you won't be doing any pelvic exams. The nurses are nice and will teach you how to draw blood and stuff and even let you do it if you want to. But the best part of this rotation, and this probably applies to most family medicine rotations, is the amount of food the drug reps bring in. You get free lunch virtually every single day and free breakfast (chick fil a, krispy kreme etc) on most days. My first friday leaving I went home with 2 ziplock bags full of ribs and a third bag full of chicken wings. No amount of cardio will save you from gaining weight on this rotation, trust me, I tried.
