This was a great away rotation! Not that it prepared me for the shelf exam... but that's universal. I worked with Dr. Stewart Williams, who is a very dry person, but don't let that fool you, he's also very nice and pretty funny. Oh, and he loves doing and teaching procedures! I was suturing on day number one! All kinds of other procedures quickly followed. I felt very involved and was allowed a great deal of involvement in patient care, from the initial history and physical to presentation to differential diagnosis to getting differential diagnosis completely wrong... A great first rotation, I learned a ton! There are three other doctors at the same office, Drs. Bishop, Pierce, and Smith. Bishop is kinda jerky, but loves to teach. Oh, he's also a DO, not an MD. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) Dr. Smith is a super nice guy, also likes to teach. Dr. Pierce must have been invisible or on vacation the entire month and a half, cause I never saw him. Valdosta is not the most exciting place, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Want any recommendations on good places to eat, email me! sthawkins at mcg.edu.
