I chose the Salvation Army Health Clinic mainly because my elective came first, and most of the other electives had Medicine as a pre-requisite. However, I strongly recommend you consider doing this elective during your senior year because you only have to work 5 half days a week, and would get plenty of time to study for Step 2. I had a great experience there; it was like working in a big family. The NP, Ms. Lynch-Hayes is wonderful. She's such a smart woman and so willing to teach! Sister Fran, the LPN, is also great, she'll let you draw all the blood you want! Louvin is the receptionist and she can help you with anything. The majority of the patients I saw during the summer had dermatological problems, so if you like derm, this is definitely for you. Plus, you get to eat in the soup kitchen everyday; hey, don't laugh, it's free and the biscuits are delicious!!!
