GI medicine in one word is hectic. Your day is different almost every time, which different rounding times (10am, Lunch, or 5pm!!) with different attendings. I was lucky to have a single attending for a whole week. The service is very procedure oriented and has a lot of cool things you get to see like ERCPs, Colonoscopys, EGDs, Barium Swallows, Capsule Colonoscopies, Whipples... lots of stuff.
Your doctors are very busy and they do care about you. Dr. Schade is very odd and seems to really pimp girls/women hard. But Dr. Chamberlain and Dr. Sridhar are great. Dr. Chaudhary seems standoffish but he's actually very nice and will teach a good bit, almost as much as Chamberlain and Srid.
I think the service is good and you'll learn a good deal on GI bleeds, Pancreatitis, Cirrhosis, Hepatic Encephalopathy, Acute Abdomens, IBDs, and Colon Cancer--all very heavy Step II and Shelf topics. Luckily it's only two weeks, otherwise you'd go crazy, but the fellows are nice and it's worthwhile. You only carry a max of 10 patients so it's manageable, just very disorganized. Such is the nature of the beast when your service is focused on procedures.

I was one of the last students to rotate on Orange Medicine when it was GI. Now I think it's just another general med service. If it reverts back to GI sometime, I can tell you it's great. Otherwise, no idea.

Yeah, Orange is just another general medicine team now. I had it my 2nd month of medicine. It seemed pretty much the same as the other general teams. As always, your experience will depend on your attendings, residents, and interns.
